January 1st 2016 was the date for the premiere on Sherlock: The Abominable Bride. It was aired on several TV channels simultaneously, but if you did not get to see the full episode (which is more like a film) on the premiere, then you can now buy it in Amazon stores and watch it right away or on DVD and Blu-Ray.
I watched this myself live online at the BBC website during its premiere and I must admit that I am a big fan of the Sherlock TV series and that is why I had great expectations before watching this full episode live online. The Abominable Bride is for sure following the Sherlock tradition with some very special cases, a very bright Sherlock who sees and understands things that other people do not, and in this one he also travels back in time to solve a case during his original days back when the stories were originally written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
I am not sure what really happened to me as I watched it live on BBC, but for some reason I was not at all as impressed and caught up with the story of The Abominable Bride as I was with the earlier episodes. In fact I even had small incidents when I kind of fell asleep along the way. That might however be more of an accident also influenced by the fact that New Years Eve was still having its impact on me and that I was sitting in a very dark room watching this episode. I guess the solution for me will be to watch it again in a brighter room when I am more awake and probably I will enjoy the episode much more then!
Do not misunderstand me… it was absolutely worth watching, but still based on my first impression I still enjoyed the earlier Sherlock episodes much more than this one (with a few exceptions as for example the first episode in season 2 was really boring as well).
Have you seen The Abominable Bride? Did you enjoy it?
