I had great expectations as I prepared to watch Beatriz at Dinner. I have seen different trailers and written about it several times, and recently I finally got the chance to watch the movie.
The different trailers made it look really promising, and I decided a long time ago that this is a movie I would like to watch. As of August 2018, it is included on Amazon Prime, and it can also be seen in quite a lot of Netflix regions, so I decided to finally go ahead and watch the movie.
I mentioned Beatriz at Dinner in a recent article (before watching the movie), and there I mentioned the scores at Rotten Tomatoes. It has a critics score of 64%, while the audience score is “only” 55%. I do not really care about the audience score of 55%, but the fact that the critics’ score is much higher gave me a bad feeling. There is a general trend that tells me that if a movie has a higher critics score than audience score, then I normally do not like it.
I finally watched Beatriz at Dinner
And then I finally got to watch Beatriz at Dinner. I really wanted it to be an interesting movie, but I had a hard time concentrating. It had some great perspectives on things, and the actors all did a great job, but still… I had a hard time concentrating on the movie throughout the story. It had a fantastic potential, but somehow, it didn’t manage to live up to its full potential.
I can understand that the critics’ enjoy the movie and give it a high score, and I can also understand why the general audience finds this movie to be a bit boring.
I do not believe that we are all the same, but in a stereotype kind of world, I would say that this is a perfect movie for aged couples between 50-70 years who like watching movies with interesting conversations on topics such as politics, environment, and healthcare.
Have you seen Beatriz at Dinner on Amazon Prime, Netflix, or maybe somewhere else? How did you like the movie?
