We are now living in the post-Game of Thrones era. Well, it can almost be called an era, because it has received so much focus, and because many people will speak of TV before and after Game of Thrones.
It has turned into a record-breaking TV series, and the final episode was seen by more than 13,5 million viewers live in the USA on HBO, with more than 5 million extra viewers watching it online on HBO Go and HBO Now live. That gave the final episode more than 18 million viewers, making it the most seen program ever in the history of HBO. I guess they are happy about it, but many people wonder if they won’t feel the temptation to keep the story going?
That is getting even more important as the majority of fans are really unhappy about the way the story ended. I have no clue about it myself as I am currently watching Game of Thrones season 2 (after finishing the first season 2 days ago), but I guess I will have the chance to comment the matter once I get there. Until then, I do my very best to stay far away from all newspapers and online portals giving out information and spoilers about season eight, so I am very careful whenever I look forward information about Game of Thrones… so also when I looked for the amount of viewers for the final episode of Game of Thrones.
What to stream in the post-Game of Thrones era?
There is only a couple of weeks of waiting before we will be served the second season of Big Little Lies on HBO. Even though it isn’t a Game of Thrones series, it is still a fantastic show with nerve and amazing actors. It is no surprise that the second season had to come after the success of the first season, and in June we will get it.
But, we also have Chernobyl, a series in five parts which can be streamed on HBO right now. It is telling the story of the Chernobyl accident, and how people fought to save their own lives and the lives of other people. I haven’t seen it yet, but it is on my to-watch list!
If you live in Europe and have HBO Go, you might be amazed to discover that the Hulu show The Act can be streamed on HBO Go. In the USA you will only find it on Hulu, but in Europe, it is broadcasted by HBO, so that is a great show if you want to learn more about how a girl was abused by her mom, and how the outer appearance was totally different from what was the reality on the inside.
And just like HBO is broadcasting the Hulu show The Act in Europe, they also broadcast The Handmaid’s Tale. And yes, in June the third season of the show will come to Hulu, meaning that it will also come to HBO in Europe, meaning that millions will flock to their screens to see what will happen and to find out how blessed the fruit of the handmaids will be.
What about Westworld?
I don’t really like Westworld, but I do know that the series has millions of fans around the world. The second season ended with lots of drama, but the viewers have to wait until 2020 for the third season to arrive, so you better remain patient if this is what you look forward to stream on HBO Now.
