Do you have an IPVanish subscription? Can it be used to stream Amazon Prime abroad? Or are you considering buying a subscription with IPVanish, but you are not really sure if it is working with Amazon Prime video or not? I have tested this, and that is why I am writing this article. Keep on reading to find out the truth!
It is important to know that Amazon Prime works and operates in a different way than Netflix. I just received a comment to the main article at amazonprime.fromabroad.org in which the commenter said that he needed a UK payment card to purchase a UK Prime subscription. So, what was the need of a VPN? Well! It isn’t enough to have a US Prime subscription. With Netflix, you bring your subscription along wherever you go, meaning that the same Netflix subscription you registered in the USA also can be used in the UK, in Japan, and all across the world. It is not so with Amazon Prime. You need dedicated subscription in all the countries you might be interested in.
But, if you have a Prime subscription in the USA, can you use IPVanish to stream the Prime Video content encrypted within the USA, or to stream Prime Video content outside the USA?
IPVanish and Amazon Prime
IPVanish was one of the big VPN services in the world for some years, but unfortunately, little has happened and been developed in the latter years. As a result, they do not come up with new servers and upgrades. That also makes them an easy prey to streaming services and TV networks looking to block IP addresses. What do I mean?
If someone walks into your living room with dirty shoes once, you block them, and make sure that they do not return. So, whenever the same pair of shoes return, you just close the door.
That is what has happened with IPVanish and Amazon Prime. All the IP addresses available to IPVanish users have been registered by Amazon Prime in the USA, meaning that they will not be allowed to stream the local US Prime content using the IP addresses provided by IPVanish.
If you give it a try, you will most likely see something like this.
This is quite annoying, and it is limiting your Prime Video experience a lot. Some content is available abroad as well, meaning that you can stream it outside the USA. But, even that might be blocked when you use IPVanish, so then you are better off just disconnecting the VPN and using your normal IP address.
How to stream Amazon Prime abroad then?
If you really want to stream an unlimited version of Amazon Prime Video abroad (outside the USA), you better use a VPN that isn’t blocked by Amazon. That is harder than most people expect, because Amazon Prime is working hard to block foreigners using VPNs to access the service.
Luckily, there are some exceptions, and you can find all the information you need about which VPN to use with Amazon Prime at amazonprime.fromabroad.org.
