Netflix has been working hard to improve the quality of the movies and TV series available at their platform. Now the time has come to improve the sound quality!
In a recent press release, Netflix told the world that they are working at implementing the advanced sound standard named Dolby Atmos. This will of course not happen to all content at once, but it will get its premiere on Netflix with the highly praised movie Okja. In the movie Okja we meet Mija. She is a girl who is willing to risk everything to stop a giant company from taking her best friend, a giant animal Okja.
What is Dolby Atmos?
It is excessively complicated for me to explain, but a description I once read said it was something like this:
“Dolby Atmos is a new technology that makes it possible to save sound like coordinates in a 3 dimensional map. This makes it possible for the sound from different objects in the movie to be played by a loudspeaker located in the same location as the object in the movie making the sound.”
That description makes sense to me, and it makes me very curious and makes me want to check it out. Unfortunately few people have loudspeaker and devices at home actually supporting Dolby Atmos yet, but the newest Xbox’ devices and some brand new Smart TV’s do support this, and support will for sure increase with Netflix introducing the sound technology on their platform.
A quick search at Amazon.com and Amazon.de shows that there are loads of TV’s available with support for Dolby Atmos, and if you want a set of loudspeaker with support of Dolby Atmos, that can easily be found as well. Use the links beneath to find what you are looking for and order a product today.

Visit the sites above if you want to find prices and information about TVs or loudspeaker systems with support for the Dolby Atmos technology. This is a great step from Netflix, and I believe it will make the Netflix experience much better. Until now the cinema experience could be experienced in the cinema only, but as Netflix implement the Dolby Atmos technology, you might just as well bring the cinema to your own living room!
What do you think? Are you happy about Netflix implementing the Dolby Atmos technology? Will it make you spend more time on Netflix? I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject!
Guess I will have to buy some new loudspakers then…
